What is Matrixyl 3000®?

Matrixyl 3000 by Sederma is a collection of peptides, called matrikines, that are the inspiration behind this ingredient’s name. These matrikines encourage the skin to repair itself. Matrixyl 3000 has demonstrated the ability to reverse skin-aging, heal damage caused by sunlight, and boost production of the connective tissues collagen and fibronectin for smoother skin (1). It also helps increase the synthesis of hyaluronic acid (HA) which keeps the skin hydrated. To put it simply, this powerful anti-aging ingredient combats wrinkles, discoloration, and dryness for healthier, more youthful skin.

Clinical Trials On Matrixyl 3000®

In an in vitro study (meaning that it was done in a test tube), skin cells were incubated with Matrixyl 3000 for 72 hours. The graph on the left measures the increase in collagen, fibronectin, and HA according to the concentration of Matrixyl 3000. At a concentration of 1% Matrixyl 3000, there was an increase in synthesis of collagen, fibronectin, and HA. As the concentration of Matrixyl 3000 increased, so did the positive effects. This demonstrates that Matrixyl 3000 was the factor behind the increases in collagen, fibronectin, and HA, and furthermore, that it can help to rebuild the extracellular matrix that supports the structure of the skin. 

In a different, in vivo study (meaning the testing was performed on real people), 23 participants between the ages of 39 and 74 applied Matrixyl 3000 for a time period of 2 months. The results below show that Matrixyl 3000 decreased wrinkle depth, volume, density, and area compared to the use of a placebo. It also decreased skin roughness and provided a lifting effect.
